Dumpster Rentals: How Our Pricing Really Works (and Why Turnaround Time Matters)

If you’ve ever rented a dumpster before, you know it can be confusing trying to figure out what affects the price — especially if it’s your first time. At Christensen Recycling, we believe in keeping things honest, transparent, and easy to understand.

Every now and then, a customer tells us they didn’t realize how turnaround time plays into pricing — and that’s on us. So I wanted to take a minute to explain how the process works and what we’re doing to make it clearer for everyone moving forward.


The Honest Truth About Dumpster Pricing

Our most competitive dumpster pricing is based on quick turnarounds — meaning the dumpster gets filled, swapped, or picked up within a reasonable timeframe, usually within 7 Days For The Garbage Dept, and 3 Months or less for Scrap Metal Dept.

Why? Because when cans are moving, it helps us keep our operations efficient, metal prices strong, and our costs lower, by using the equipment we already have and not needing to purchase more cans.

If a dumpster ends up sitting for a long stretch (say, up to 5 months in the scrap dept; or up to 1 month in the garbage dept), carrying costs start to add up — things like the dumpster sitting, insurance, space, and lost opportunities to serve other customers. When that happens, we may have to adjust pricing a bit to keep things fair and sustainable.

It’s never about trying to nickel-and-dime anyone — it’s simply about balancing costs so we can keep offering top-level service and competitive scrap prices to everyone we work with.
